Support for the Independent Press in Central Asia
The program is an extension of activities started in 2004 and aimed stimulating the development of independent publishing houses in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. It is directed towards representatives of the local press and newspapers published by ethnic and religious minorities in Central Asia. Within the project there are two cycles of trainings planned for journalists from Kyrgyzstan (Jalal-Abad) and Tajikistan (Hodjent). Topics cover the Polish experience in developing local press and achieving self-sustainability through development of a commercial market strategy. We are also planning a study visit in Poland for journalists from Central Asia. The most active participants of the seminars in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan held of 2004 will be selected to take part in the study visit. Journalists will have the opportunity to experience an internship in editors’ offices of local Polish newspapers and to apply in practise the knowledge obtained during last year’s training.
Coordinator: Aleksandra Grabowska
